یکی جوق کردي تو بي چارگان/ ابا خود بیابرده‌یي زین میان 1
ز کي یافتي تو این قدره جاه/ که دادت امیري کدادت سپاه 2
امیري زباله منم نام‌دار/ نه‌ بینی در عرب چنو یک سوار  3
سپه را بیک ره بنزدم فرست/ کتا برگشایم بضربت دو دست 4
اکنون آمدم بدین حرب‌گاه/ به پیشم چه یک مرد یکي سپاه 5
پیامبر خو بشنید گفتاری وی/ بپهلوي خالد اورد در وقت روي 6
[بـ]ـرون رو بمیدان بري کارزار/ بگفتش که اي خالدی نامدار  7
ز مردي خوش زود آگاه کن/ زباني لعین را تو کوتاه کن 8
فرس را برون زد بمیدانی کین/ چه خالد چه بشنید از پیامبر چنین 9
یکي اسبي تازي ورا زیر ران/ چه یک پاره کوهي که باشد کلان 10
رسیدش بمیدان بری کافرا/ بیستاد مانند شیر نرا 11
بگفت اي لعین بمیدان گراي/ چه داري تو قوت بمیدان نماي

 بمیدان اندرون لاف نیاید بکار/ چه داري عیاري بکن اشکار 1
 تني خود ستودن چنین از چه روي/ اگر جنگ جوي هلا جنگ‌ جوي 2
 بگفتند و بکشتند و با یک‌دیگر/ چون دو پیل مست و چون دو شیر نر 3
 پیامبر بماده دری‌شان نظار/ دران دو مبارز گهي کارزار 4
 یکي حمله کردند هر دو ببر/ نه این را ظفر بود نه آنرا ظفر 5
 گزین خالد یکي حمله کرد / عنانرا ز پردلي بمرکب سپرد 6
 بزد نیزه بر کمرگاه وي/ ببرد از لعین حشمت جاه وي 7
 ز در خفتان و جوشن گذشت/ وزان هر دو خیره ملعون کذشت 8
 سنان سر نیزه شد در کمر/ ز پیش برون برد در وقت سر 9
 ز نیزه لعین را ز زین بربود/ بسوی هوا برد در وقت زود 10
 سر نیزه را بر کف خود بر نهاد/ گزین خالدی فخر تو را 11
 بگرداند ان نیزه چرخ‌ور/ دو لشکر بمانده درو در نظر 12
ترجمه
Folio:
1 [Zubāla’s general says,] “You have gathered a group of paupers / and have brought them with you [to fight].
2 Who gave you this authority or power? / Who gave you command, or army?
3 I am the famous general of Zubāla / No cavalry rider amongst the Arabs is my equal.
4 Let all your army come to me at once / I will free my two hands to kill them all with my blows;
5 For I have come to fight [and it is all the same to me] / whether I face one man or an army.”
6 When the prophet heard his words / he immediately turned to face Khālid 
7 “Go to the battleground to fight / O Khālid, the famous one”, he said.
8  “Prove your bravery to him without delay / and silence that abominable one!”
9 He advanced with his horse towards the field of battle / as soon as Khālid heard this from the prophet.
10 [Khālid] was mounted on an Arab horse / in his bearing like a great hillock.
11 He reached the infidel at the battle ground / and stood in front of him like a lion.
12 [Khālid] said, “O abominable one, come into the battlefield / and show your power on the battlefield.”
1  “Boasting is useless on the battlefield / show me your fighting skill!
2  Why are you boasting so much about yourself? / If you are a warrior, come and make war!”
3  They spoke thus, and began to tussle / like two drunken elephants or two lions.
4  The Prophet was stunned as he watched / the two adversaries fighting.
5  Both fell upon each other immediately / neither one nor the other victorious.
6  The excellent Khālid made an attack / and in his bravery let go of the reins.
7  He thrust a spear into [the general of Zubāla’s] back / rending the abominable one’s pomp and grandeur,
8  And penetrating his body-armour and vest / leaving the abominable one bewildered.
9  The spear’s head pierced his belt / and penetrated his front side right away.
10  [Khālid] picked up the abominable one from his saddle with his spear / and suddenly lifted him into the air.
11  He put the spear’s handle into his hand. / Oh excellent Khālid, glory [is] yours!
12  He turned the spear like a wheel / and the two armies were watching in amazement.
