In this document, Samsit, an inhabitant of Mahon, promises not to do harm to Tak son of Bet, an inhabitant of Madr, his family, and properties. The document was made at the court of the khars of Rob, showing that Mahon and Madr were under the jurisdiction of Rob. Two of the three witnesses bear Turkic titles, as the region was under control of the Turks. Among the dated Bactrian documents, this is the earliest that falls in the Islamic period. At this time, however, Islam exerted no influence in this area.

1 (It was) the year 407, the month Khandig,
2 the day Ashtad, when (this) sealed document, (this)
3 guarantee-contract, was written here in the district of Samingan,
4 at Sandaran, the court of the khars of Rob,
5 in the presence of Frama-rizm Shaburan, the
6 tapaghlïgh iltäbir of the qaghan prosperous in glory,
7 khar of Rob, lord of Parpaz, and
8 in the presence of Khulkhan, the ïnal tarkhan, lord of (the estate) Wilargan,
9 and in the presence of Suren, the steward of the khars of Rob.
10 Now: I, Samsit son of Biyan-bid,
11 inhabitant of Mahon, we (sic!) whose house they call Biyanbidan,
12 servant(s) of the khar of Rob, guarantee to you, Tak son of Bet, inhabitant of Madr,
13 you (pl.!) whose house they call Burzmiran, servants of the khar of Rob,
14 that we have collectively agreed that from tomorrow (and) for (all) future
15 time we shall not cause damage to life, neither by killing nor by . . .,
16 not to the estate, not to the fortress (and) walls, not to (his) wife (and)
17 children, not to (his) brother, not to (his) son, not to (his) paternal relatives, not to the
18 irrigated land, not to the vineyards, not to slave-girls (and) slaves, not to (items) of gold (and)
19 of silver, not to animals; from a thousand dinars (worth) down to one penny’s (worth), we shall not cause damage (and)
20 loss in such a way that it† might be shown (to be) offensive, destructive (and)
21 lawless towards the Wiralan (family); in whatsoever way I, Samsit,
22 with my brothers, sons (and) descendants, may lawlessly (and) destructively cause injury,
23 then may I, Samsit, (and) my brothers, sons (and) descendants, die ourselves, and
24 we shall pay one thousand dinars of gold to the treasury of the khars of Rob and we shall pay one thousand
25 dinars of gold to you, Tak, (and) to your brothers, sons (and) descendants.
26 And so, after the fine has been paid, may (this) guarantee-contract, (this) sealed document,
27 be (considered) good and valid as (it) is written herein, from now to eternity.
28 And the . . . of the sealed document have been written. Whoever
29 may produce it, then may it be (considered) valid (and) authoritative just as (it) is written for you,
30 Tak, (and) for the members of your household; and may we chase off all enemies
31 and keep all our own (household) as we have guaranteed.

19 (this) sealed document, be (still considered) good and valid as (it) is written herein, from now to
